When wandering through unfamiliar woodland, I am often on the lookout for trees that look out of place; perhaps old and wise looking relics that have witnessed many changes compared to their younger and less characterful neighbours. I found this imposing pair of oak trees one afternoon in Snowdonia and decided to return early the following day in the hope of capturing some morning mist, soft light, and the atmospheric experience that I often crave. After visualising a composition, I typically must wait many months to enjoy such fantastic conditions, but this time I got lucky! It was an awe-inspiring scene to witness as the light caught the fading mist and lit the gap between the almost symmetrical trees that form a gateway into the magical and restorative world of trees.
