About the photograph
Captivated by the goat willow I had photographed for *Ophelia’s Witness*, I eagerly returned to make a simpler composition of a neighbouring willow. Knowing that its catkins would be short-lived, I became almost obsessive in the frequency of my visits, arriving in the early hours in the hope of seeing the first rays of sunlight reach its canopy.
Eventually, the moment arrived. Caught in gentle backlight, countless pale catkins frothed above the cool shadows of the valley, their soft forms seeming to float into the warmth of the rising sun. For a few fleeting minutes, the willow appeared suspended between night and day, its smallest details becoming points of light.
