About the photograph
One of the most recognisable landmarks in North East England, Roseberry Topping attracts thousands of visitors to its exposed summit and far-reaching views. I made this photograph on a showery evening in September 2015, while rich colour still lingered in the heather.
As a sheet of rain approached, the setting sun shone through it and filled the landscape with beautiful golden light. The warmth illuminating the heather and valley contrasted with the brooding sky, transforming a familiar view into a brief and dramatic spectacle.
