About the photograph
Occasionally, I make an image that feels as though it contains more than a compelling woodland scene. It may express something deeply personal, or represent the culmination of perseverance and a series of memorable experiences that have gradually turned a vision into reality. These photographs feel less like isolated moments and more like milestones.
Lean on Me is one of those images. At its heart, a dead tree leans against the central oak, while the scruff of deadfall below is allowed to remain part of the story. It is about recognising beauty not in spite of the woodland’s complexity, but because of it. For me, it also represents my growth as a photographer and a shift in mindset—beyond simply finding beauty and order, towards speaking for the trees, honouring their complexity and expressing what makes their shared home so special.
