About the photograph
Working close to home has provided an endless source of fascination. Just when I think I have exhausted every possibility, something unfamiliar presents itself — or experience inspires a new way of seeing what was there all along.
I have photographed this woodland since 2016, although I often step away from it for extended periods. Returning after time away rekindles the excitement I felt when first entering this wooded valley. On this mist-filled morning, an old, moss-covered tree spread its limbs like a creature from folklore, presiding over an enchanted world in which fairies, goblins and hobgoblins felt entirely believable.
