Part of the magic and mystery of woodland lies in that sense of anticipation—the curiosity and childlike wonder that grows as you meander between the trees. Every step becomes part of a visual journey as trunks overlap, paths disappear and fragments of light draw you towards places not yet seen.
The next bend might reveal a majestic ancient oak, a hidden valley alive with colour and light, or a fallow deer bounding across cushions of bilberry and heather. That uncertainty is part of the joy. Go for a walk, follow your nose and see what you find; sometimes the anticipation is every bit as rewarding as the discovery itself.
