After running many one-to-one and residential workshops, here’s the very first single day group woodland workshop – a great way to experience and learn about photography in a challenging but very rewarding environment. It promises to be a great day to leave you feeling inspired and enriched with a new perspective on photography and composition.
We’ll immerse ourselves in the very same self-discovered woodlands that have shaped my photography over the past few years. I’d love to share my passion and give you the confidence to find, explore and capture these atmospheric surroundings in your own way.
B&B accommodation available upon request
Sunday 13th January
Lunch included. Breakfast included if staying at the B&B
Moderate (rough terrain and some hiking)
"The time I spent on your workshop last weekend may well prove to be one of the most profitable, rewarding and long-lasting investments I have made."
"Simon has really nailed the workshop format with a completely client focused experience."
Join me in the North York Moors where we’ll start the day before sunrise by heading to one of my favourite locations then after an introduction to my woodland workflow, we’ll return to the B&B (if participants have stayed there the night before). After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head out again to put into practice the ideas and processes we’ve discussed throughout the morning. A late lunch will be followed by a hot drink and post-processing session.
Transportation to all photography locations during the workshop
Tuition & guidance from Simon
In depth discussion on composition and thought process
Image critique on location
Adobe Lightroom image editing session
Breakfast if staying at the B&B the night before the workshop
Excludes: Insurance, travel to the accommodation/starting point.
Fitness & Experience
Although we won’t be walking long distances, having a good level of fitness will be an advantage on this workshop. We will be walking off the beaten path, on rough terrain and through woodland foliage. The ground could be loose, boggy or steep. If you are of ill health or suffer any physical ailments, this is probably not the right workshop for you. If in doubt, please get in touch. This workshop caters for photographers of all skill levels and experience but, to get the most out of the week, you will ideally be comfortable with the technical use of your camera.
Accommodation isn’t included in the workshop price but it’s highly recommended to give us a superb base from which to explore and somewhere to return to for breakfast and our post-processing. I can arrange your stay for £70 for a single occupancy en-suite room including breakfast. Please let me know if you’d like a room and I will arrange this for you after you’ve confirmed your place on the workshop.
Simon's a lover of all things outdoors but has a particular affinity with woodland where he enjoys the therapy, wildlife, atmosphere and tackling the compositional challenges. You'll usually find Simon way off the beaten track with photography companion and best friend, Meg.
Commended in LPOTY 2016, received Outdoor Photography Magazine's Choice prize and won the Light on the Land category in OPOTY 2017. Watch Simon on YouTube
Booking and Terms
Terms & Conditions
A non-refundable deposit of the amount stated in the workshop description is required at the time of booking.
The balance of the workshop price is due 6 weeks prior to the workshop date. Should this final payment fail to reach us by the date specified, we reserve the right to treat the booking as cancelled and retain the deposit. If a booking is made 6 weeks or less prior to the departure date then the full amount is payable at the time of booking.
Any cancellation by you made in the 6 week period prior to the trip will mean that we retain the total cost of the workshop unless your place is sold on. If this should happen we will retain only the deposit and the balance will be refunded.
The receipt of a deposit does not imply acceptance of a booking. We will confirm our acceptance of your booking in writing by email, and it is at the time we send out this confirmation that a contract comes into existence between us.
We reserve the right to alter or cancel any workshop. Should an alteration or cancellation become necessary for reasons other than force majeure (see clause 6 below), we will notify you and you will then have the choice of accepting the change, taking an alternative workshop (and where this is of a lower price we will refund the difference), or withdrawing from the contract and accepting a refund of all monies paid to us.
We can accept no responsibility for cancellation of workshops due to Force Majeure. Force majeure is unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control including fire, flood or adverse weather conditions. Landscape photographers work in all weathers and it will be unusual for weather to necessitate a cancellation. However, if a workshop has to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, we will offer you a free place on an alternative workshop.
In the unlikely event of the specified tutor being unable to attend due to illness or other circumstances beyond our control, another tour leader will be provided. If this is not possible, then the workshop will be cancelled and the provisions of clause 5 will come into effect.
We do not accept responsibility or liability for death, bodily injury or illness caused to you or any other person included on the booking form, unless arising from our negligence.
By paying the deposit, you are agreeing to accept all the above conditions. The person who pays the deposit for a group booking does so on behalf of all the individuals included on it, so that all are bound by the booking conditions.
By booking with us, you agree to receiving occasional emails from Simon Baxter Photography with news and information about our tours and services. We will never share your details with another organisation. To opt out, just send a blank email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the title 'unsubscribe'.
